How we approach sliding rooflights in Kirkintilloch
Sliding rooflights in Kirkintilloch means box rooflights whose glass lid slides back for walk-out roof access. We cover the G66 district and the rest of Glasgow and Dunbartonshire, with a survey before any price is fixed.
Many Scottish homes have dormers and attic rooms where an extra roof window adds light without a full dormer. In Kirkintilloch, as anywhere, sliding rooflights are the usual choice for walk-out access where a hatch would feel cramped.
From Kirkintilloch to Bishopbriggs, Cumbernauld and Glasgow, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Options we can specify in Kirkintilloch
- Box (glazed sides) or flat sliding lid
- Rain sensor
- Double or triple glazing
- Integrated balustrade on some ranges
- Anthracite, black or RAL frames
- Lockable from inside
- Glazed box sides keep the headroom open
Before you order: points to check
- Needs space on the roof for the lid to slide clear
- Electric units need a dedicated supply and commissioning
Do you need permission in Kirkintilloch?
Planning rules in Scotland differ: rooflights are treated as external alterations under Class 2B, with no permitted development in conservation areas. Listed buildings need listed building consent where the work affects their character.
Scotland's Technical Handbook (section 6) asks for windows, doors and rooflights in an extension to average 1.4–1.6 W/m²K, with no single unit worse than 3.3 W/m²K. Forming a new opening normally involves structural work, so check with the local authority verifier whether a building warrant is needed.
Our planning guide covers each nation in more detail.
