Dome rooflights in Workington: what is involved?
Thinking about dome rooflights in Workington? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
The North West gets more rain than most of England, so upstand height, membrane detailing and rain sensors on opening units are not optional extras. Dome rooflights suit schools, flats and commercial flat roofs.
Workington is around 48 km from Carlisle, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Cumbria, including the CA14 district.
Choices for your Workington project
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Smoke-vent versions available
- Fixed, hinged or vented options
Things we check at survey
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Regulations for dome rooflights in Workington
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.
