Hinged roof access rooflights in Aberystwyth: what is involved?
We handle hinged roof access rooflights across Dyfed, including Aberystwyth. In short: hinged glazed hatches over a stair or ladder for roof terrace access. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Welsh planning rules exclude rooflights from permitted development in conservation areas and National Parks, so we check the designation before quoting. Think of hinged roof access rooflights for reaching a roof terrace, plant area or flat roof from a stair or ladder.
Neighbouring towns include Machynlleth (25 km) and Dolgellau (39 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.

Consents for hinged roof access rooflights in Aberystwyth
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
In Wales the limiting values are 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight and 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window in an existing house. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.

Hinged roof access rooflights in Aberystwyth: questions
Does it let in as much light as a normal rooflight?
Yes — closed, it is a glazed rooflight. The frame is slightly deeper to carry the hinge and seals.

Units lock from inside. As with any rooftop door, keep it locked when the house is empty.
