Roof lanterns for Cardigan: the essentials
We handle roof lanterns across Dyfed, including Cardigan. In short: hipped glass lanterns that lift the ceiling of orangeries and extensions. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Many Welsh homes have older single-storey rear extensions where a glass rooflight brightens a dark kitchen. Think of roof lanterns for orangeries, kitchen-diners and single-storey extensions.
Jobs in Cardigan are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.
Options we can specify in Cardigan

What to check first
- Plaster-box depth affects how the lantern looks from below
- Larger lanterns may need a steel or timber ring beam
Consents for roof lanterns in Cardigan
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.

Questions about roof lanterns in Cardigan
Roof lantern or flat rooflight?
A lantern adds height and sky from all sides; a flat rooflight is lower-profile and cleaner from outside. Our guide compares them in detail.
How big can a lantern be?
Aluminium systems go to around three by six metres in standard ranges; larger sizes are made to order.
Do they leak?
Modern lanterns are sealed systems. Leaks usually trace back to the kerb or roof membrane detail, which we form and check ourselves.
Can you work alongside my builder in Cardigan?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Is the survey in Cardigan free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
