How we approach skylight installation in Cardigan
Skylight installation in Cardigan means survey, supply and fit — new openings, extensions and fit-only work. We cover the SA43 district and the rest of Dyfed, with a survey before any price is fixed.
Many Welsh homes have older single-storey rear extensions where a glass rooflight brightens a dark kitchen. Typical uses for skylight installation include builders' projects and retrofits into finished roofs.
From Cardigan to Carmarthen, Haverfordwest and Tenby, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.

Consents for skylight installation in Cardigan
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Questions about skylight installation in Cardigan
Do you fit rooflights bought elsewhere?
Yes. We check the product and the opening first, and our workmanship terms cover the fitting rather than the product.
Do I need a structural engineer?
For new openings that cut joists or rafters, a structural check is sensible and building control may ask for calculations.
Who handles building control?
We tell you which route applies — building control approval, a building warrant in Scotland, or in England and Wales self-certification by a registered competent person — and supply the product data.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Cardigan?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Can you work alongside my builder in Cardigan?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
