Roof lanterns in Hinckley: what is involved?
We handle roof lanterns across Leicestershire, including Hinckley. In short: hipped glass lanterns that lift the ceiling of orangeries and extensions. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Industrial and commercial units around Midlands towns often still have their original rooflight sheets, which are due for replacement. Roof lanterns suit rooms that need height as well as light.
We work across Leicestershire, including Hinckley, and in neighbouring towns such as Nuneaton and Bedworth. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning and building rules for Hinckley
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Questions about roof lanterns in Hinckley
Aluminium or uPVC?
Aluminium gives slimmer bars and a longer life; uPVC costs less. We fit both.
Do they leak?
Modern lanterns are sealed systems. Leaks usually trace back to the kerb or roof membrane detail, which we form and check ourselves.
How big can a lantern be?
Aluminium systems go to around three by six metres in standard ranges; larger sizes are made to order.
Do you fit roof lanterns in Hinckley?
Yes. We survey and fit roof lanterns in Hinckley and across Leicestershire. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
Is the survey in Hinckley free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
