How we approach pitched roof windows in Peterborough
Our pitched roof windows service in Peterborough covers centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
In the East of England, bungalows and chalet bungalows with large flat-roofed extensions are common, and they often suit a long run of rooflights. In Peterborough, as anywhere, pitched roof windows are the usual choice for lofts, attic rooms, landings and vaulted ceilings.
We cover all of Peterborough and the PE1 district, and nearby Stamford and Oundle.

Planning, building control and Peterborough
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Questions about pitched roof windows in Peterborough
Can roof windows be electric?
Yes — electric and solar-powered models open by remote and many include rain sensors.
Centre-pivot or top-hung?
Centre-pivot windows are easy to clean and suit most rooms. Top-hung windows open out from the top for an unobstructed view and suit lower roof pitches near eye level.
Do I need planning permission for a roof window?
Often not, under householder permitted development, provided it does not project too far above the roof plane and conditions are met. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas are different. Our planning guide covers each nation.
Is the survey in Peterborough free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
How do I book a survey in Peterborough?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
