What does skylight installation in Dinas Powys involve?
For Dinas Powys homes and buildings we offer skylight installation: survey, supply and fit — new openings, extensions and fit-only work. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Skylight installation suits builders' projects and retrofits into finished roofs.
We work across South Glamorgan, including Dinas Powys, and in neighbouring towns such as Penarth and Cardiff. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.
Specification options
- New openings with joist trimming

What to check first
- Building Regulations approval (a building warrant in Scotland) may be needed
- Work at height is planned with suitable access
Do you need permission in Dinas Powys?
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.
